Holy Spirit Children's Sermon - God's Holy Spirit for All of Life's Seasons! - Joel 2:23-29

Holy Spirit Children's Sermon - God's Holy Spirit for All of Life's Seasons!

Use this children's sermon on the Holy Spirit during the Fall season to show kids that God's Holy Spirit helps us get through anything!

Needed: A yearly calendar with monthly pages.

Lesson: Show the children your calendar and ask, What month is it?

Do you think this is the time of year when we plant crops or when we harvest crops? (Harvest.)

And why do we harvest crops? (To eat them!)

What if we didn't have any crops to harvest? What if bugs came through all our farm fields and ate all the food before we could harvest it? Then what would happen to us? (We might go hungry!)

(Flip through the calendar and say,) You know, sometimes we have a good harvest, and sometimes something happens to give us a not-so-good harvest. Just like in life; sometimes we're having a great time and everything is going well, and sometimes things don't go very well for us.

 But do you know what stays the same no matter what?

God's love for us. God always loves us, no matter if things are going well or if they're going bad. And He is always with us. He's given us His Holy Spirit to live inside of us and to help us in the good times and the bad times.

(Read Joel 2:23-29, quoted here in the NIV.)

Be glad, people of Zion,
    rejoice in the Lord your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
    because he is faithful.
He sends you abundant showers,
    both autumn and spring rains, as before.
24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
    the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.

25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
    the great locust and the young locust,
    the other locusts and the locust swarm—
my great army that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
    and you will praise the name of the Lord your God,
    who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
    that I am the Lord your God,
    and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed.

28 “And afterward,
    I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
    your old men will dream dreams,
    your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
    I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

So, no matter what is happening in our life, God's Spirit is always with us to help us. God's Holy Spirit inside of us can make us strong and brave and ready to face any problems we have and do anything we have to do.

Let's pray about that.

Sample prayer: Father God, we thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit and for always being with us, in the good times and in the bad times, to help us and to make us strong for You. In Jesus' name, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.
