Genesis 13 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Genesis 13:8,9

So, Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

Abram’s confidence was not in the land but in the Lord! He knew that no matter what direction he went,  God would be there. If he went left, God was there. If he went right, God was there. No matter the direction, God would be faithful to His promise and be with him. Could we live a life of faith like that? When faced with a crossroads in life, could we respond the same?

The Bible tells us that one of these directions was more appealing to the eye, that it was well-watered like the garden of the Lord. Yet Abram didn’t go off of looks or feelings but rather rested in the Lord and who He is!

One thing we have to remember is that this wasn’t Abram’s first day walking with the Lord. He had developed a previous relationship and was able to draw off of past experiences of Who God is and how He is with him. We must be trained up in the quiet times of life to stand firm in the storms. We don’t just wake up one day with a deep and intimate relationship with God; it is grown over time. Yes, salvation, conversion m, redemption, and freedom can happen in an instant, but that deep-rooted relationship with Him is built through time, trials, testings, and triumphs. If we want to stand in Him tomorrow, then we have to start bowing and believing Him today!

Genesis 13:14-17- The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love holds a promise! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
