Genesis 18 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Genesis 18:1-5

The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” “Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.”

Abraham doesn’t ask what the Lord could do for him but rather how he could serve the Lord! What a beautiful example of a servant's heart and the correct way to approach our God. Reverence and humility might not go far in the world, but they speak volumes in the Kingdom.

It’s important for us to note that all of this took place in between the Lord’s promise of Isaac and the fulfillment of that promise. How easy it would have been for Abraham to the run up to the Lord and ask Him if it was time or what was taking so long. But he doesn’t do that, does he? He hurries to them and bows low, taking the position of a servant and asking how he can serve!

Abraham’s heart was for God, and he knew that if God promised it, then He would fulfill it. Abraham wasn’t serving for his son but serving because God is God and is worthy of all praise, glory, and honor. Abraham didn’t let his situation determine or dictate how he served the Lord but rather served Him in the waiting, knowing that the promise was good! How can we do this today? Will we serve Him in the waiting or waste it whining and complaining about His timeframe? It’s not too late for us to repent and refocus upon Him and all His great promises to us!

Genesis 15:6- Abram believed the LORD, and He credited it to him as righteousness.

2 Corinthians 1:20- For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

God bless! I love you all, but He loved you first! Glory, honor, and praise to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
