Use this Psalm Sunday School lesson to teach children about God's forgiveness.
Smile and whisper conspiratorially with students, How many of you have ever gotten in trouble at home?
What kind of punishments do you get when you get in trouble?
(Share some of the punishments you used to get as a kid.)
I bet those punishments don't last forever, do they?
And
the punishment that God gives us doesn't last forever either. God's
punishment for all the bad things that we do is that we die some day.
But God loves us so much that if we ask Him to forgive us for our wrong
things, He won't make us stay dead forever.
I want to show us how this happens. Everyone lay down and pretend like you're dead...(You do it as well.)
Now everyone stand up...and reach as high as you can.
(Read or paraphrase Psalm 30.)
King
David said that God punishes us, but He will also forgive us if we ask
Him to and He will save us from dying forever so that we can live with
Him.
Let's pray about that.
Sample
prayer: God, we're sorry for the wrong things that we do and thank You
for loving us and forgiving us and giving us a chance to live forever
with You one day. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
